FCC Recognition
Wednesday, December 30, 2009
AADB participated in a ceremony recognizing the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) 75 years of service as the nation’s regulatory watchdog for communications. Other national deaf and hard of hearing consumer organizations also recognized the FCC, including the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), Gallaudet University, the California Coalition of Agencies Serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing People (CCASDHH), and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Consumer Advocacy Network (DHHCAN). This event was organized by Telecommunications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Inc (TDI).
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski was presented with a painting by Chuck Baird and each organization representative spoke about the FCC’s accomplishments for telecommunications access for the deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind communities. Jamie Pope, Executive Director of AADB, expressed gratitude for including the needs of deaf blind consumers in all policy planning over the last several years, such as broadband accessibility in recent past months. AADB looks forward to working with the FCC on making more telecommunications, including video relay services, accessible to deaf-blind Americans.
