Chris Woodfill, along with Art Roehrig and Jill Gaus, has been participating in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s rule making process, under the leadership of Telecommunications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Inc. (TDI). The process was completed recently.
Numerous organizations, including AADB, the National Association of the Deaf, the National Black Deaf Advocates, the Alexander Graham Bell Association, American Society for Deaf Children, the Conference of of Educators and Administrators of Schools for the Deaf, and various ethnic and religious national organizations for the deaf participated and signed off on the comment responses to FCC rule makings. More details as they relate to deaf-blind people will be provided in the next report.
The policy committee itself was not reactivated for this. Art Roehrig was appointed as the point person for AADB related to the FCC and Chris and Jill mostly monitored the proceedings. When time came for the organizations to sign off, Chris was given the authority to do this, and Chris did so as appropriate.

Advocacy Committee:
This committee is still forming as two invites still need to go out. We will discuss a mission statement and action plan this month. Anyone who has ideas for issues which need to be tackled separate from the FCC, please contact Karyn Campbell, chairperson at karynaadb@wowway.com with “Advocacy Committee” in the subject line. We will definitely follow up on the NLS issue. Also let us know if there are any issues you are having with VRS in terms of appropriate dress or service. We can take it as an action item to follow up on any issues that are brought to us.

The motion to restructure the policy/procedure and the advocacy committees has been voted on and passed by the board. Now, there is a policy committee which was merged with the advocacy committee. The procedure part has been relabeled internal procedure and placed under the law committee as a subcommittee. Technology and FCC are placed in the policy committee as subcommittees. The policy committee and the subcommittees are not fully up and running at this time. It is the intention of the chair of this committee to have it up and running during November.

The policy committee is on hiatus right now. Jill and I had a lengthy conversation on vp regarding the policy committee. We both agreed that policy is not a priority at AADB at this time. AADB is in critical condition financially at the present time. All board energies need to be focused on fundraising and to get out of the office leases. After both critical goals are satisfactorily met, policy committee will be active again then. Until then, there will be no further reports from the policy committee. Jill and I will discuss and agree on when to reactivate the policy committee.
Subcommittee of Policy: FCC
Randy Pope has resigned- no one in place yet.
