Job Description:
The Executive Director is responsible for agency operations and ensuring the delivery of both direct and indirect services to Deaf-Blind individuals in DBSC’s service area. These responsibilities include management of personnel and services: implementation of Board policies; communication with the public, Board and community; program development; fundraising; data collection and fulfilling state reporting requirements; and direct client services to provide SSP, advocacy, community access, and information and referrals. The Executive Director is also responsible for upholding the mission of DBSC which is the commitment in assisting Deaf-Blind people in reaching and maintaining their highest possible quality of life and degree of personal autonomy.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as an administrator for all of the daily operations of DBSC.
Research and prepare grant proposals. Cultivate contacts and relationships with select individuals, foundations, corporations, and government representatives to bring new funds into DBSC. Assess services needed by the community and implement programs to meet these needs. Conduct on-going evaluation of programs and services in meeting these needs.
Oversee programs and services.
Keep the Board of Directors informed on a regular basis and respond to their directives and policies. Facilitate community events by the Board of Directors and Fund Development Plan Committee. Direct procedures for the keeping of records and files to meet the reporting requirements of contracts, grants and contributions of DBSC. With the Financial Committee, develop an annual budget reflecting expected revenues and expenditures for DBSC, submit this to the Board of Directors for approval, and monitor adherence to the budget by the agency.
Perform outreach activities and represent DBSC to its various constituencies;
Knowledge and Abilities Desired:
Fluency in American Sign Language. An understanding of the current issues related to Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing consumers accessing public and social services, in addition to familiarity with laws and regulations pertaining to Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing consumers. Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting concepts and practices, knowledge of personnel management practices and knowledge of the social service delivery system. Public relations experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Social Services, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field – a Master’s degree is preferred. Experience in providing social services to the Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing with supervisory experience.
- Good communication skills including presentations and writing reports.
- Proven ability/skills to do grant writing.
